With financial support from #KOICA, UNFPA, in partnership with TECHNIDEV, has implemented a project to strengthen community resilience in areas at high risk of conflict. Under this project, women's groups and associations are being supported to carry out income-generating activities with the aim of strengthening their resilience and empowering them. The Baga Sola single women's association has received mills for this purpose.
Resilient, empowered women
In a context of precariousness that characterizes their lives, these single mothers are now making more money thanks to the income generated by the operation of their mills donated by #UNFPA from the #KOICA fund. These mills are much in demand by the local population for grinding millet. This has enabled the management committee to generate a substantial dividend, which is shared monthly among all the women members of the association to enable these destitute women to provide for their families. This has made a considerable contribution to improving their living conditions. Mrs KOUMBO ILDJIMA, a member of the association, said :
I'd like to express my gratitude to this project, which has enabled us to get these mills. Thanks to these mills, I have an income that enables me to feed my children, pay for their school fees and meet other needs.
Invest in other income-generating activities
In the Lake Chad province, conflicts are recurrent and disasters caused by the overflowing waters of the lake are frequent. This has major and far-reaching repercussions on social life, health and the economy, which is based essentially on agriculture. This is why UNFPA has declared the Lake area a humanitarian emergency, requiring support to empower women and, above all, to strengthen their resilience. Taking advantage of the mills donated to their association, the women of the Single Mothers' Association are now seeing their suffering eased. They now plan to save and invest in other income-generating activities.
Together with the members of our Association, we plan to save and invest in other income-generating activities in the future to further improve our quality of life.

UNFPA committed to supporting women's empowerment
The economic, social, psychological and political empowerment of women is a protective factor that reduces the risk of violence against women. In Lake Chad province and elsewhere, UNFPA is working to empower women and girls and strengthen their sense of self-efficacy and assertiveness. Thanks to this support, the single mothers of Baga Sola, Lake Chad province will eventually be able to achieve real economic and social empowerment, a sine qua non for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
