UNFPA in Seoul

UNFPA is a United Nations agency that aims to promote sexual and reproductive health. UNFPA's mission is to strengthen women's right to self-determination of pregnancy, support safe and healthy births for mothers, and promote the development of children and adolescents to their full potential.

The UNFPA Seoul office opened on February 13, 2019 and is playing a role in creating an ecosystem for international development cooperation in the field of population development, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, aging and low birthrate, and response to humanitarian crises.

The cooperation between UNFPA and Korea dates back to 1974, when UNFPA started supporting the Korean government's population settlement and family planning. UNFPA has provided assistance in the formulation of human rights-based family planning, census and data use for sustainable development.

Currently, the Republic of Korea is an important cooperative partner and donor of UNFPA, and the Seoul office is in close communication with various government ministries and agencies, while further strengthening partnerships with public institutions. In addition, the Seoul office is making great efforts to promote mutual cooperation with the National Assembly, civil society organizations, the private sector, academia, and various other stakeholders to spread the vision of UNFPA as a sexual and reproductive health organization.
