UNFPA-CPE 2025 Partnership Work Plan

Seoul, Republic of Korea – 5 March 2025

On 5th of March, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Seoul Representation Office met with the President and Vice President of the Korean Parliamentary League on Children, Population, and Environment (CPE) at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (RoK). The meeting reaffirmed a strong partnership between the two entities and explored avenues for active collaboration in 2025.

Discussions centered on presenting  the 2025 work plan between the CPE and UNFPA Seoul Representation Office, identifying collaboration opportunities on demographic resilience, gender, family planning, and highlighting key initiatives, including the upcoming launch of the 2025 State of World Population (SWP) report and the Republic of Korea’s Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)-funded 'Conflict-affected and Fragile countries support Programme (CFP)', currently underway in six countries (Central African Republic, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan, Lebanon, and Palestine) across Africa and the Middle East.

Following the presentation of the work plan, MP Nam In-soon underscored the critical role of sustainable development and gender equality in global peace and prosperity. She reiterated the RoK’s commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of women and girls worldwide and emphasized continued collaboration with UNFPA. Further to this, MP Lee In-young reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening the RoK’s support for UNFPA, aligning with the RoK government’s ODA strategy and efforts.

The meeting served as a key milestone in strengthening the long-standing partnership between UNFPA and the CPE. Both parties committed to continuing their efforts to foster deeper cooperation and align initiatives to address pressing demographic challenges, gender-based violence, and population ageing. The discussions laid the groundwork for a more impactful collaboration in 2025, furthering Korea’s engagement with UNFPA’s mandate on global demographic and development issues.
