World Mental Health Day
UNFPA and Partner staffs working for psychological support for internally displaced people in Lebanon.

10 October is World Mental Health Day.

Mental health, as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes their abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to their community. It is not merely the absence of mental disorders but a ‘positive’ state of mental and emotional well-being. This definition aligns with the broader conception of human rights as not only freedoms from harm but freedoms to lead a fulfilling life.

Since 2021, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) support, has been providing comprehensive Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services, including mental health and psychosocial support, for women and girls in the Middle East Region (Iran, Iraq, etc.).

Together, we can ensure mental health is valued, protected, and promoted for all. Let's build a world where mental health is a right, not a privilege.
