UNFPA Hosts Launch of the State of World Population Report 2024
UNFPA will host the 2024 launch of the State of World Population (SoWP) Report on June 28, at TCS HQ

The UNFPA will host the 2024 launch of the State of World Population (SoWP) Report on June 28 (Fri), at the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) in Seoul.

Published yearly since 1978, the SoWP Report is a flagship report prepared by the UNFPA. Each edition analyzes developments in world population demographics, shedding light on emerging issues in the field of sexual and reproductive health, as well as the unique challenges and opportunities they present for international development. This year SoWP, “Interwoven Lives, Threads of Hope - Ending Inequalities in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights,” will commemorate the achievements made by the RoK in the field of population and reproductive health, while also identifying the remaining challenges to overcome.

The event will begin with congratulatory remarks from the Korean Parliamentary League on Children, Population and Environment(CPE) President MP In-young Lee, TCS Secretary-General H.E. Hee-sup Lee, UNFPA APRO Regional Director Mr. Pio Smith, and UNFPA SRO Chief Dr. Asa Torkelsson. Following a video about this year’s SoWP report, there will be 5 panel presentations on ending inequalities in SRH and gender: “ROK’s ODA to support gender equality and rights of women” by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)’s Cheong-soo Nam, “ROK’s gender equality status based on SDG Progress Report” by Statistics Korea’s  Ms. Sangjin Park, “Voices from the field - supporting women and girls in humanitarian settings” by Good Neighbors International’s Ms. Jin-Hyang Park, “Family formation trends and patterns of women's work trajectories in South Korea: determinants and cohort differences” by Korea Labour Institute (KLI)’s Ms. Younga Kim, and “Gender Equality and Low Fertility in ROK” by Seoul National University GSIS professor Dr. Ki-Soo Eun. The event will wrap up with a panel discussion on reproductive health and gender equality in the RoK’s context, moderated by UNFPA Senior Advisor Dr. Rita Columbia. Korea Women’s Development Institute (KWDI) Senior Research Fellow Mr. Dong-sik Kim, Korea Population Health and Welfare Association (KoPHWA) Audit and Inspection Office Director Ms. In-suk Jang, and Dr. Eun will participate in the discussion.
