UNFPA in Seoul

UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. Our mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

The UNFPA Seoul Office opened on February 13, 2019, and is responsible for fostering an international development cooperation ecosystem in the field of population development, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, aging and low birth rates, and humanitarian crisis response.

The cooperation between the UNFPA and Korea dates back to 1974, when it began supporting the Korean government’s population settlement and family planning. The UNFPA has provided significant assistance in establishing human rights-based family planning, conducting population surveys, and using data for sustainable development.

Currently, the Republic of Korea is an important cooperative partner and donor country of UNFPA, and the Seoul Office communicates closely with various government ministries and affiliated organizations such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Statistics Korea, the Korea International Cooperation Agency, and the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare, while further strengthening partnerships with these public institutions. In addition, the Seoul Office is making great efforts to promote mutual cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (Korean Federation of Children, Population and Environment Members), civil society organizations, the private sector, academia, and various other stakeholders to spread the vision of UNFPA as a sexual and reproductive health organization.
